NCLB and Other Zombie Ideas Almost no politician today Democrat or Republican has anything good to say about No Child Left Behind the deeply unpopular yet amazingly difficult to kill incarnation of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The law should have expired in 2007 but a dysfunctional Congress has failed to replace it with a saner approach. Now that Republicans are fully in control and eager to show they can govern a novel idea for many of them prospects for ESEA reauthorization could change. But legislative progress still seems dicey.
