The George Balanchine Foundation is a not-for-profit "public charity" exempt from federal income tax The mission of The George Balanchine Foundation is to utilize the Balanchine legacy to advance the development of dance and its allied arts in the United States and throughout the world on behalf of the dance community at large. This goal is pursued through a broad range of activities and programs, including concentrated research, ballet reconstructions, publications, lectures and videos, and other innovative projects.

Dedicated to programs and initiatives that preserve and extend George Balanchines immeasurable contributions to dance. The Video Archives coaching sessions record the tradition of passing on knowledge from dancers who worked directly with Balanchine. As they share their experience being in the studio during the time of creation with dancers who dance the roles today the intention and context of the choreography are revealed. With over 80 sessions since 1995 covering more than 65 of Balanchines ballets the Video Archives represent the heart of the George Balanchine Foundations contribution to the preservation and understanding of Balanchines work.
