Boonton Main Street

Boonton Main Street, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring, preserving, and promoting the historic downtown district of Boonton, New Jersey. Established in 2002, it operates as a grassroots effort, relying heavily on contributions and volunteer support to achieve its mission.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of Boonton Main Street is accomplished through a multifaceted approach based on the four-point model defined by the National Main Street Center and Main Street New Jersey:

• Organization: Building a strong foundation for sustainable revitalization by fostering partnerships, community involvement, and resource acquisition.
• Promotion: Positioning the downtown area as the community's hub by creating a positive image and highlighting its unique characteristics through events and advertising.
• Design: Enhancing the physical and visual assets of the district to support its transformation.
• Economic Revitalization: Implementing initiatives to bolster economic vitality, assist local businesses, and foster entrepreneurial growth.

Initiatives and Events

Boonton Main Street organizes various events and activities to attract visitors and support local businesses, including:

• Boonton Brewfest: A festival featuring local breweries and entertainment.
• Farmers' Market: Held every Saturday from mid-May to November.
• Community Games and Hunts: Events like the Golden Egg hunt are designed to engage the community and promote local businesses.

Funding and Support

In 2021, Boonton was awarded a five-year designation under the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP), which includes an annual grant of $125,000. This grant is complemented by a municipal match of $25,000 each year, totaling a $150,000 improvement program annually. The organization's efforts are sustained by contributions and volunteer support.

Leadership and Governance

Boonton Main Street is overseen by a Board of Trustees, with operational management handled by the organization's Executive Director. The current leadership includes:

• Executive Director: Natalie Spingold
• Other roles are filled by various board members and liaison positions to ensure effective coordination with the local community and government.
