Madison Capoeira Group What is Capoeira. Capoeira is a 500year AfroBrazilian Martial Art that combines elements of selfdefense dance and acrobatic movements with the pulsating rhythm of live music. It has its roots in the days of forced labor in Brazil when millions of Africans were brought from their homeland and kept in camps called Senzalas. It was here that Capoeira was born and became an important tool in the enslaved African and Indigenous peoples39 fight for survival and ultimately their freedom.
