Fitch Home Inc. is a non-profit retirement community located in Melrose, Massachusetts. Established in 1918, it was founded in memory of Mrs. Sarah E. Fitch with the goal of providing high-quality senior care and retirement living for the elderly.

History

The idea for the Fitch Home came after Mrs. Fitch discussed her will with a friend in October 1916, following the passing of her husband. She envisioned a home for older citizens in Melrose, leading her to leave bequests in her will to establish such a facility. The first trustees, including Wallace R. Lovett, Frank M. Hoyt, and Edward J. Kitching, were tasked with setting up the home based on Mrs. Fitch's wishes. The home opened on November 20, 1918, initially with five members, and has since grown to serve more residents while maintaining its original mission to provide a warm and friendly living environment.

By 1919, it was decided to incorporate the Fitch Home as a Charitable Trust to avoid taxation and increase the potential for receiving donations. The Fitch Association was formed in 1920 to broaden community engagement and support the home through services and amenities.
