Preparatory Rehabilitation for Individual Development & Employment, commonly known as PRIDE, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing vocational rehabilitation and various support programs to individuals with cognitive, developmental, and/or intellectual disabilities in the southeast Massachusetts area.

History

PRIDE, Inc. was founded in 1969 by Dr. Sterling Cotlin at Taunton State Hospital. The organization's inception was part of a broader movement during the 1960s, focusing on deinstitutionalization and creating less restrictive community environments for people with severe mental illness. Initially aimed at providing vocational training and opportunities for patients with mental illness, PRIDE expanded in 1973 with a community-based facility in Raynham, Massachusetts, offering services to a wider range of individuals with various disabilities[1].

By the 1980s, PRIDE had relocated to a larger facility in Taunton, significantly expanding its programs and services. Today, it serves over 640 individuals, offering a comprehensive array of innovative programs designed to enhance the quality of life for those in need[1].
