We are excited to share that student Zahra U., a member of our OSHS Speech and Debate Team, was selected by the Commissioner of Education, Manny Diaz, Jr., as one of just 40 students across the state to attend the Fourth Annual Florida Civics and Debate Day at the Capitol on March 26. This event, held annually since 2020, brought together civics and debate students from throughout Florida to Tallahassee, where they immersed themselves in the legislative process and gained firsthand understanding of how state government operates. During the day, the students participated in a mock session on the House Floor and had the opportunity to hear from esteemed state leaders, including chiefs of staff and Florida Supreme Court Justices. The experience allowed them to interact with government and elected officials while exploring the Florida Capitol during a live legislative session.
