Avian Haven

Avian Haven is a nonprofit wild bird rehabilitation center located in Freedom, Maine. The organization was founded in 1999 by Marc Payne and Diane Winn and is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of orphaned, sick, and injured wild birds with the goal of releasing them back into the wild.

Avian Haven's primary mission is to provide comprehensive medical care and rehabilitation to wild birds, ensuring their safe return to their natural habitats. Since its inception, Avian Haven has grown significantly, treating more than 35,000 birds from over 100 species. Its annual patient load has increased from approximately 300 birds to around 3,600. This growth positions Avian Haven as one of the largest avian rehabilitation centers in New England. The organization collaborates with local wildlife biologists, game wardens, other rehabilitators, and the public to receive and care for birds in need.
