From volleyball spikes to ultimate frisbee throws, corn hole showdowns, kickball homers, and peaceful yoga flows—they did it all. Mamaroneck High School's recent Career Expo provided an invaluable opportunity for the Class of 2026 to explore the exciting possibilities that await them beyond graduation. This inaugural event, conceived and led by Principal Cannavò, brought together professionals from diverse industries who shared their expertise, insights, and real-world experiences with eager students. “It gives them perspective on various career pathways, and they can ask questions in person with immediate feedback,” said school counselor Brittney Strachn, who helped organize the event along with social studies teacher Carrissa Fitzpatrick, Coordinator of Student Life Haywood Berman, and the MHS PTA. The event ran concurrently with the Pre-Summer College presentation meetings with the Guidance Counselors. During her keynote speech, former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair and MHS graduate Lina Khan captivated the junior class as she shared her remarkable career journey. Having moved to Larchmont in seventh grade, Ms. Khan graduated from MHS in 2006. During her time at Mamaroneck High School, Ms. Khan was actively involved in The Globe, the track team, and the literary magazine. Ms. Khan shared how her career path evolved from initially wanting to pursue journalism to ultimately choosing law. In 2021, she became the youngest-ever chair of the FTC. During her presentation, she provided the students with background on the FTC's role and her work as commissioner. She is currently a law professor at Columbia University. Students were thrilled to interact with real professionals who have exciting careers and receive an inspiring keynote conversation with Lina Khan. Whether students were curious about emerging fields in technology, drawn to careers in healthcare, law enforcement, creative industries, or still discovering what sparked their passion, the expo offered a unique chance to connect directly with professionals, ask questions, and gain valuable perspective on potential career paths.
