American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Inc.
The American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Inc. (ACKCSC) is a nonprofit organization based in the United States. It serves as the parent club for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed within the American Kennel Club (AKC).
History
The ACKCSC was founded in response to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA's (CKCSC, USA) decision not to pursue AKC recognition. In 1992, the CKCSC, USA was invited by the AKC to become its parent club for the breed but voted against it. Following this decision, a group of CKCSC, USA members formed the ACKCSC to pursue AKC recognition. This new club successfully petitioned the AKC for parent-club status in December 1994. Subsequently, the AKC recognized the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as the 140th breed on January 1, 1996[1][2].
Activities
The ACKCSC engages in various activities to promote and protect the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed. These include organizing educational seminars for judges, holding specialty shows, providing breed-related information, and supporting health initiatives related to the breed[1][3]. The club also conducts national specialty shows and other dog-related events throughout the year[4].
Governance
The club is governed by a board of directors and operates under the AKC's rules and regulations. As an AKC member club, it plays a crucial role in promoting responsible dog ownership and advancing dog sports.
Mission
The mission of the ACKCSC is to protect and represent the interests of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel within the AKC while promoting the health, welfare, and well-being of the breed. The club aims to preserve the breed's integrity and ensure its continued popularity through education and advocacy.
