An Irish-based African development charity focusing on improving education and rebuilding infrastructure in some of Africa's most impoverished communities. Non Profit Organisation https://melloneducate.com/literacy-hat-challenge-2/ Our mission is to bring literacy to 100,000 children across Africa while at the same time providing employment to school leavers in the community. The Mellon Literacy program offers support to children struggling with the basics of literacy and language in the foundation phase of their education. One-on-one tutoring takes place in the rich environment of the Literacy Hub, built and resourced by Mellon Educate, as well as in community-based libraries. The program has been proven through a two-year pilot across three primary schools and is now being expanded into multiple schools.

We're excited to announce the return of the Mellon Educate Literacy Hat Challenge. 📚 This initiative tackles a pressing issue in South Africa, where 81% of 9- to 10-year-olds cannot read for meaning in any language. Through the sponsorship of a Literacy Hat, you can partner with us to help deliver one-on-one tutoring to children who need it most, while also training unemployed youth from local communities to become Community Literacy Tutors.
