American Friends of Nishmat (AFN) is the US-based entity supporting the work of Nishmat, The Jeanie Schottenstein Center for Advanced Torah Study for Women Nishmat: The Jeanie Schottenstein Center for Advanced Torah Study for Women is dedicated to producing women scholars and leaders of breadth and vision: highly educated women who are deeply committed to Jewish tradition and observance and who are determined to apply their intellectual gifts and leadership talents in ways that will significantly enhance Judaism's engagement with the modern world and the State of Israel. Nishmat also seeks to provide beginner students with the capability to independently study Torah and to guide them in their spiritual growth. A vigorous exchange of ideas, rigorous textual study and an exceptionally high standard of academic excellence characterize studies at Nishmat. Nishmat is developing educational opportunities for disadvantaged women, especially Ethiopian students, that enable their economic advancement.
