We provide dignified lifetime care for retired Thoroughbreds as well as opportunities for people wishing to improve their well-being. Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) is a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1983, the oldest and largest thoroughbred sanctuary in the U.S. To save Thoroughbred horses no longer able to compete at the racetrack from possible neglect, abuse, and slaughter. At state correctional facilities, TRF offers a nationally accredited vocational training course in equine care and stable management. Inmates learn marketable job skills and benefit from the intangible benefits of of working with animals, while the horses receive quality, supervised care. Sound horses are retrained and adopted out to private homes.

📣 Update from the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation: Glass Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser at the Kentucky Horse Park Due to forecasted storms rolling in Saturday night into Sunday, the Glass Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser will now close Saturday evening instead of Sunday. We’re so grateful for everyone who has come out to support the TRF and our retired racehorses this week. To keep our beautiful glass pumpkins and our amazing volunteers safe from the weather, we’ll be packing up a little early.
