Salt Ponds Coalition | Saving the Beauty of Our Salt Ponds Preserve Rhode Islands Salt Ponds VIEW Event Calendar Become a Member Donate Mission Salt Ponds Coalitions mission is to protect and enhance the health of Rhode Islands salt ponds for the benefit of wildlife and people. In operation since 1985 we are the oldest continually operating volunteer marine waterquality monitoring program in the nation. We partner with environmental nonprofits and municipal state and federal agencies to complete restoration projects and advocate for healthy pond ecosystems. Our programs are designed to educate people of all ages about the importance of this vital resource and inspire them to become stewards of Rhode Islands salt ponds.

Today is World Water Monitoring Day. Every year from May through October, SPC’s Pond Watchers go out every other week to sample our beautiful salt ponds. These samples help us to better understand the ponds and how to best advocate for their health.
