Old Fort Johnson Old Fort Johnson was built by William Johnson in 1749 beside the Mohawk River in colonial New York. The original limestone house was fortified for protection during the French Indian Wars from 175563. King George II rewarded Johnson with the title of Sir William Baronet of New York for his role in the Battle of Lake George in 1755. His later actions led to another British victory at Fort Niagara.
