On May 20, 2025, CPR joined with the Disability and Aging Collaborative (DAC) and task forces from the Consortium for Constituents with Disabilities (CCD) to protest an unprecedented 700 billion in cuts to the Medicaid program. Elements of the budget bill under consideration this week – including job loss penalties, eligibility, and coverage limitations – will particularly harm older adults, care givers, low-income children, and people with disabilities while transferring the costs of unreimbursed care to the states. Together with DAC and CCD LTSS/Health co-chairs, more than 730 signatories urged House Leadership to oppose these draconian budget cuts, and to protect access to lifesaving health care from the millions who rely on the Medicaid program to live and work in their communities and to avoid unnecessary and costly institutionalization. These services are essential to providing aging adults and people with disabilities the health care and support services they need to survive.
