During the 1975 bicentennial of the “Concord Fight,” President Gerald Ford spoke to an audience of celebrants and protestors on a rainy day. He was not the original invitee — Richard Nixon had resigned in August 1974, long after planning had started and invitations had been sent out. This year, as is general practice, we won’t know ahead of time which invited dignitaries and politicians will attend.
