We’re continuing our Nurses Week celebration by honoring another one of FHCW’s extraordinary nurses: Jennifer Castro-Lainez. 💐 Jennifer’s journey into nursing began in childhood, after she was hospitalized with lead poisoning. Far from home and frightened, she remembers the nurses who cared for her with such warmth and kindness that it felt like her mother was right there beside her. That early experience stayed with her and sparked a deep desire to become a nurse. She started her healthcare career as a CNA in 2011, became an LPN in 2017, and earned her RN in 2022. Since joining FHCW in 2019, Jennifer has brought her compassion and dedication to multiple teams, including Team 3, the Walk-In Center (WIC), the Transition of Care (TOC) team, and now the Women’s Health and Sexual Reproductive Health Team. What she loves most about being a nurse at FHCW is the chance to continue growing and learning. Each new role has given her fresh skills and deeper insight—from triage nursing to patient advocacy. One of her most memorable experiences was volunteering to help launch COVID testing at the Walk-In Center. With no clear roadmap, Jennifer and her team worked closely with providers and medical assistants to create a safe and effective testing system—through snow, rain, and summer heat. Jennifer describes her nursing career as “rewarding.” And the biggest lesson she’s learned? To believe in herself. Nursing school was hard, passing the NCLEX was a challenge, and stepping into her first nursing role took courage. But she pushed through—and now uses her skills to uplift and care for others.
