Overview

KEYS Corp, also known as The KEYS Program, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering music, hope, and smiles to children impacted by cancer and serious illnesses. Founded in 1993 by David Bennett and his wife Colleen, the organization aims to improve the quality of life of pediatric patients through music therapy and support programs.

History

The KEYS Program was established following the loss of Colleen’s father to cancer. The founders created the organization to provide comfort and support to children facing similar health challenges, inspired by the healing power of music.

Mission and Programs

The organization's mission is centered around enhancing the lives of children battling cancer and life-threatening illnesses. KEYS offers award-winning music therapy programs, family respite days, and sibling support services. All programs are provided at no cost to the families served.

KEYS also raises awareness about the benefits of music therapy and educates healthcare professionals and parents on how to integrate music into daily care practices.

Impact

Today, The KEYS Program serves over 850 children in New York State annually, with additional services reaching 135 children across 16 states in the United States. KEYS partners with other organizations, such as the Tony Stewart Foundation, to provide Music Toolkits to children’s hospital libraries nationwide. Their KEYS Kids Network and Monday Night Smile Concerts are broadcast to sites serving over 1.5 million pediatric patients each year.

Recognition and Transparency

KEYS has achieved GuideStar's Platinum Seal of Transparency, demonstrating a high level of openness and accountability. The organization is registered and in good standing with the IRS and the New York State authorities.

Financials

The organization relies heavily on contributions and fundraising events to support its activities. In recent years, KEYS has received significant grants from various foundations and raised substantial funds through fundraising efforts. The organization maintains minimal liabilities and focuses its resources on program services.
