Late last night the House of Representatives passed its version of the budget reconciliation bill, which includes devastating cuts to Medicaid and includes a provision to defund Planned Parenthood. Republican leadership also snuck in at the last minute two provisions: 1) that eliminates Medicaid coverage of gender affirming care for everyone (not only for young people, as it was written in the bill before) and 2) that would all but eliminate insurance coverage of abortion for people who get their coverage through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, including in states where coverage is required. These are outrageous additions and will cause immense harm if they are included in the final bill. And it will mean more people will need the support of abortion funds to get the care they need, especially if they no longer have insurance coverage for their abortions or for gender affirming care.
