On this date -- May 28, 1907 -- the Morris-Jumel Mansion opened for the first time as a public museum, providing visitors a glimpse into the oldest existing residence in Manhattan, New York City. The Mansion has been perched on one of the highest points on Manhattan Island since 1765, eleven years before the founding of the United States, serving as a host and witness to history for 260 years.
