How do we create a true sense of belonging? And how do we build a community where everyone feels at home? At the Weizmann Institute of Science, we believe innovation happens when people from different backgrounds come together. Even in a year as challenging as this one – security-wise, personally and socially – we've continued working toward creating a diverse, supportive and inclusive community. On World Day for Cultural Diversity, we're proud to announce Einav Berin as the recipient of the 2025 Student Award for Volunteering and Diversity Promotion. Einav volunteers as a physics teacher at an Arab high school in Lod, helps displaced students, and promotes women in science. Honorable mentions also go to Elisheva Berent-Barzel for mentoring ultra-Orthodox women in science; and Dr. Ryan Felkai for founding the "Language Exchange Club" at Weizmann, which bridges cultures through conversation among students and postdocs. "Diversity and inclusion aren't goals - they're a way of life," says Dr. Meytal Eran Jona, Head of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, the office behind this initiative. "A place that sees the person behind the title and embraces different voices from everyone who is part of it is a place where science without boundaries can flourish". איך נראית שייכות? ואיך בונים קהילה שכולם מרגישים בה בבית? במכון ויצמן למדע אנחנו מאמינים שחדשנות נולדת כשקולות שונים נפגשים. גם בשנה כל כך מאתגרת – ביטחונית, אישית וחברתית – המשכנו לפעול למען קהילה מגוונת, סולידרית ומכילה. לרגל יום הגיוון הבינלאומי, אנחנו גאים לספר כי עינב ברין היא זוכת פרס הסטודנטיות והסטודנטים להתנדבות ולקידום גיוון והכללה לשנת 2025 ביוזמת והובלת המשרד לשוויון, גיוון והכללה. ברין מלמדת בהתנדבות פיסיקה בתיכון ערבי בלוד, סייעה לסטודנטיות וסטודנטים שפונו מבתיהם ותורמת לקידום נשים במדע. בנוסף, ציון לשבח ניתן לאלישבע ברנט-ברזל, על התנדבותה בליווי וקידום נשים חרדיות במקצועות המדעים; ולד"ר ריאן פלקאי, על יוזמת והקמת "מועדון חילופי השפה" במכון ויצמן עבור סטודנטים.יות ופוסטדוקים.יות, שמהווה הזדמנות לחבר בין תרבויות דרך המילים. "גיוון והכללה הם לא יעד, אלא דרך חיים", אומרת ד"ר מיטל עירן יונה, ראש המשרד לגיוון והכללה. "מקום שרואה את האדם שמאחורי התואר ומכיל קולות שונים מכל מי שחלק ממנו, זה מקום בו יכול לצמוח מדע ללא גבולות".
