Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County
We help adults help themselves through literacy. Mission: The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County is to provide adults with effective programs in reading, writing and communication skills necessary for them to achieve their personal and professional goals. Vision: LVSCNY plans to foster and enhance adult and family literacy through the efforts of a corps of paid teachers and trained volunteer tutors who assist adults functioning at the lowest literacy levels. Low levels of literacy among adults translate into significant impacts on quality of life: inability to obtain employment, inability to obtain better employment, difficulty leaving public assistance, and lack of parenting skills that are necessary to the development of literacy skills in children. LVSCNY wants to do its best to break the illiteracy/poverty cycle.
