Labrador Friends of the South

Overview

Labrador Friends of the South is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of homeless Labrador Retrievers in the Southeast region of the United States. The organization focuses on protecting and saving Labrador Retrievers and their mixes from the challenges of pet over-population and irresponsible pet ownership.

Activities

  • Rescue and Adoption: The organization rescues homeless Labradors, providing them with veterinary care and temperament testing before making them available for adoption. The adoption process involves careful matching of each dog with suitable families based on factors like lifestyle and personality.
  • Fostering: Fostering is a key component of their operations, allowing volunteers to provide socialization and care to dogs awaiting permanent homes.
  • Fundraising: The organization relies solely on donations, fundraising events, and adoption fees to operate. They engage in various fundraising activities, including merchandise sales and community events.

Structure

  • Volunteer Organization: Labrador Friends of the South is an all-volunteer organization with no paid employees. Key positions include president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary, none of whom receive compensation for their roles.
  • Financial Operations: The organization's primary source of revenue comes from contributions, with a smaller portion from program services. As a 501(c)(3), donations to Labrador Friends of the South are tax-deductible.

Purpose

The organization aims to combat the misconception that rescued Labradors often have behavioral problems. Instead, many of these dogs are victims of unfortunate circumstances, lacking the oversight and care that they deserve.

Benefits

  • Public Awareness: Labrador Friends of the South contributes to public awareness of animal welfare issues, highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for loving homes for stray Labradors.
  • Community Engagement: The organization encourages community involvement through volunteering, fostering, and adoption, thereby building stronger bonds between people and animals in the region.

Adopt Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a rescued Labrador. Foster Fostering is a way to help a dog in need. A foster home provides socialization and helps prepare their foster for their new home. Donate Fundraisers are so very important to our ability to continue to save the lives of these wonderful labs and to have successful adoptions.
