NAUMBURG ORCHESTRAL CONCERTS
The oldest outdoor #classicalmusic concert series in the world, offering FREE orchestral performances at the historic Naumburg Bandshell. Since 1905, the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts has continuously presented free, outdoor classical music concerts to New Yorkers of all walks of life. The series seeks to stimulate and encourage new and expanded audiences for classical music. FREE OUTDOOR CLASSICAL MUSIC AT THE NAUMBURG BANDSHELL - ON THE CONCERT GROUND - CENTRAL PARK, SINCE 1905. Elkan Naumburg, a philanthropist and ardent supporter of classical music, began the concerts. He wished to encourage and stimulate interest in symphonic and semi-classical music. Five free concerts are offered each summer. WQXR and NOC broadcast the concerts live, allowing about 3,000,000 listeners to hear them annually. We feature promising new talent and promote the professional development of young composers and conductors now. One of NYC's most popular, historic and distinguished musical treasures, we have a strong public following. And, we are a cultural activity that attracts and benefits a large number of individuals with diverse economic and social backgrounds.
