Mujeres Unidas Avanzando (MUA), known as Women United Advancing, is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational services to the low-income Latinx community, particularly focusing on Latina girls and women. Founded with the mission of empowerment through education, MUA has been operating for nearly three decades.

Mission and Objectives

The mission at MUA is to offer comprehensive educational programs designed to support the educational, professional, and personal development of its participants. Services and Programs

Mujeres Unidas Avanzando offers a variety of educational and supportive services:

• English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): MUA provides ESOL classes at three levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—to improve participants' English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Classes are available in morning, afternoon, and evening sessions, with both in-person and virtual options.
• HiSET Preparation: The organization offers HiSET preparation in Spanish, assisting participants in obtaining a high school equivalency diploma.
• Healthcare Job Training: Programs include training for clinical medical assistant, phlebotomy, and home health aide positions.
• Technology Training: MUA provides technology-related courses to enhance computer skills.
• Free Daycare Services: Free childcare is available, supporting mothers who attend classes.

Over its history, MUA has expanded significantly, transforming from a small program into a robust educational center. The organization currently operates from an 8,900 square foot facility, serving hundreds of students annually. MUA receives support from various donors, including entities such as the Women’s Foundation of Boston, the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development, AmeriCorps, First Literacy Grants, Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education – Adult and Community Learning Services, United Way, and the Cummings Foundation. These partnerships help in advancing the organization's objectives by providing necessary resources for its educational initiatives.
