Conference on Consumer Finance Law

The Conference on Consumer Finance Law (CCFL) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1926 (or 1927 depending on the source) by members of the legal profession and the financial services industry. It aims to promote educational services, publications, and research related to consumer financial services law.

History and Activities

CCFL was established to support the development and study of consumer finance law. Its activities include organizing panel discussions and seminars on consumer finance law developments. Notably, it sponsors the Frederick G. Fisher Jr. Memorial Lecture, which serves as a platform for debate among industry representatives, consumer advocates, and government officials on topical consumer finance issues.

Publications

CCFL publishes the Consumer Finance Law Quarterly Report, a law journal that provides in-depth analysis of legislation, regulations, court decisions, and other legal developments in the consumer financial services industry. The journal has expanded its coverage over the years to include a broader range of consumer finance topics beyond the regulation of personal loans.

Governance and Membership

The CCFL is directed by a Governing Committee, which is responsible for setting policies and guiding the organization's activities. Members of the CCFL benefit from access to its publications, including the Quarterly Report, and participation in various educational programs.

Mission

The primary mission of CCFL is to foster understanding and expertise in consumer finance law through education and collaboration between legal professionals and financial service providers. This mission is achieved by hosting events like the Frederick Fisher Memorial Program and publishing the Quarterly Report. These efforts support ongoing discussions and analysis of consumer finance law issues, contributing to a more informed and responsive industry.
