Bayside Historical Preservation Society Actively Working to Preserve History Welcome to BHPS Listed on the National Register of Historic Places Bayside and its Historic District consist of over 150 cottages and several parks along Penobscot Bay in Northport ME. The property was established in 1848 as the Northport Wesleyan Grove Camp Meeting grounds and served as a place of summertime worship and communion for members of some twodozen area Methodist churches. By the early 20thcentury the area had become known as Bayside reflecting its growing evolution into a popular vacation destination. Steamships regularly arrived at the wharf bringing with them rusticators from Boston and beyond.
