KLT joined colleagues from across the region today at Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury, CT 🐦 We toured parts of the Center's grounds that were damaged and significantly impacted by the flash floods of last August, hearing from staff about their experience that day and in the weeks that followed, as they worked to reopen trails and rebuild the drive and other infrastructure. Participation in the Greenprint Collaborative and its Stewardship Group is a terrific learning and networking opportunity, helping to make sure we are prepared and fiscally responsible in the ongoing (perpetual!) care of our conservation land. Today KLT's Angus Gracey and Connie Manes journeyed to our state capital to join colleagues at the Community Investment Act Lobby Day. If you value open space, farmland and dairy production, historic preservation, and affordable housing, then the CIA is for you...actually, it's for all of us, as it Connecticut's primary source of dedicated funding for these sectors and a critical component of our statewide quality of life and economy. Since it's creation twenty years ago, the CIA has invested $259 Million across the state - over 1900 projects in 168 towns! Four of KLT's public nature preserves were purchased in part with CIA funding, leveraging federal and private funds to directly benefit Kent's economy and community wellness. Right now, partners are working together to build momentum for a modest increase in real estate transaction fees ($6) so that open space, farmland, local dairy production, historic preservation, and affordable housing continue to be a valued part of Connecticut culture and living. We hope our state representives will support this timely investment in a legislative act that has exceeded all expectations in terms of its public return to all state residents.
