Today is World Autism Acceptance Day. April is about raising awareness, fostering acceptance, and promoting inclusion for individuals with autism. At BHN, we’re proud to support and celebrate individuals on the spectrum every day through our programs, empowering them to thrive. We asked our incredible staff who work with individuals with autism to share what inspires them and makes their work rewarding. Here’s what 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐦, 𝐁𝐂𝐁𝐀 𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐀 from In-Home Behavioral Services, had to say: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀? “I think people are misunderstood a lot of the time. Everyone requires a different approach to problem solving. I've worked with special needs children since high school and too many times have I seen people in positions of authority brush these individuals off and not meet them where they are to solve a problem. Everyone deserves to be heard and treated in a way that works for them.” 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀? “Seeing the joy/relief that can be brought by an individual learning to communicate effectively. Watching an individual learn to ask for something they need, and for it to be delivered is incredible. Especially seeing the relief it brings to them. Almost like, "wow, someone finally understands." 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆? “This field is not for everyone.
