Trauma and Resiliency Resources, Inc.
Overview
Trauma and Resiliency Resources, Inc. (TRR), is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by military veterans and first responders who have experienced traumatic events. The organization's mission is to combat suicide among these groups by offering innovative healing programs and resources.
Mission and Goals
TRR focuses on two primary objectives:
- Ending Suicide: The organization aims to eradicate suicide among military veterans and first responders. This goal is particularly urgent given that more veterans have died by suicide than in combat operations in recent conflicts.
- Healing and Resiliency: TRR provides specialized programs to heal the psychological and emotional injuries sustained during service, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Moral Injury.
Programs and Activities
Warrior Camp®
- Program Description: Warrior Camp is a seven-day intensive program designed to address the effects of combat trauma. It incorporates a range of therapies, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, equine-assisted psychotherapy, yoga, and narrative writing, all within a community context.
- Outcomes and Impact: Participants in Warrior Camp have shown significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, depression, moral injury, dissociation, and improvement in adult attachment issues. The program boasts a 99.4% post-program survival rate and a 99% program completion rate.
Training for Professionals
TRR also offers training programs for professionals to enhance their understanding and ability to address the specific challenges faced by military personnel and first responders.
Approach to Moral Injury
TRR distinguishes itself by redefining Moral Injury as a natural response to violating core values, rather than a disorder requiring treatment. This approach emphasizes the importance of group context alongside individual therapy in healing Moral Injury.
Community and Partnerships
The organization collaborates with various groups, including being a respected member of the Hudson Valley Veteran Task Force. This network supports TRR's mission to provide comprehensive care to veterans and first responders across the United States.
Financial Support and Community Engagement
TRR relies on donations to support its programs. Supporters can contribute in various ways, including sponsoring meals for participants or covering the costs of therapeutic activities. The organization honors the sacrifices of veterans and first responders, aiming to create a supportive community that promotes healing and resiliency.
