In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, we are thinking back to the inaugural cohort of New Jazz Works grant program recipients, 25 years ago! Did you know? Since 2000, CMA has helped support the creation of more than 290 jazz compositions – including works by these 11 artists and ensembles: Andrew Hill Point of Departure Sextet, David Berkman Band, Don Braden Octet, Frank Kimbrough and Noumena, Jane Ira Bloom Quartet, Larry Ochs and Rova Saxophone Quartet, Michael Blake and Free Association, Phil Markowitz Trio, Rob Levit Group, and Xavier Davis and the New Composers Octet. This Women's History month, we asked members of our community to share the women who have inspired their art. Today we hear from Annette A. Aguilar who names Celia Cruz, Mary Lou Williams, Chiquinha Gonzaga, and her mom as a driving force behind her creativity and her art. Let us know who inspires you in the comments below! 👇 #womenshistorymonth #composer #jazz #jazzmusician #drummer #jazzdrummer #bandleader #chambermusic #cma2025 (fb)
