Tonight: Find Common Ground Starting this afternoon, the Wende Museum transforms into a hive of ideas, music, and movement—culminating in the Los Angeles edition of the global Night of Ideas. 🌍 2 PM: Unveiling African Americans and the Soviet Bloc — a new display exploring Black radicalism and international solidarity. 🎶 3 PM: Garden DJ set with Ashla Chavez-Razzano + live performance UNDERGROUND by Teira (seating at capacity, but the garden is open for listeners to enjoy!). 🌌 5–11 PM: Night of Ideas takes over — panels, performances, stargazing, meditation, and more, all centered on this year’s theme: Common Ground. The Night of Ideas has reached full capacity and RSVPs are now closed. This event remains free and open to all until we reach in-person capacity. An RSVP does not guarantee entry—arrive early to secure your spot! Come curious. Leave inspired. (fb)

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m., join us for the official opening of our new open storage display, African Americans and the Soviet Bloc, guest-curated by our 2024 Getty Marrow curatorial intern Taylor Sanders. At the height of Cold War tensions, voices like Paul Robeson and Angela Davis found solidarity behind the Iron Curtain. Their stories reveal how African American struggles for justice were celebrated by socialist states seeking to critique Americans for failing to live up to their stated values of freedom and equality. Come explore this complex history of the intersection of African American history and Cold War geopolitics; stay for Teira's performance at 4 p.m. exploring the influence of the Cold War on jazz, alternative, and electronic music, and for the Night of Ideas from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m.! 📷: Taylor Sanders, A Collage For Angela (fb)

Through the mechanical process of BenDay dots Tibor Zala depicts the same image of Lenin using different colors for each depiction in a style that departed from the dominant realism. Influenced by the pop art style of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein Zalas portrait is exemplary of the relative cultural permeability of the Iron Curtain.
