For the past two years, Adriana Teresa Letorney, founder of Visura.co, has been quietly working on a deeply personal project: "Disrupted" — a new documentary short film and resource hub that shines a light on the declining state of the media industry and its profound impact on freelance visual journalists. Letorney was recently a panelist in an OPC program about alternative publishing outlets for freelancers. The 31-minute film, self-funded with support from the University of Syracuse and NYU Leslie eLabs, explores how media instability threatens journalism and the health of our democracy. Alongside the film, the Disrupted platform features a curated directory of organizations supporting visual journalists around the world. Please join the OPC on June 3 for another edition of our book night series. Registrants will receive a link to join via Zoom on the day of the program. New York Times Managing Editor and OPC governor Marc Lacey will moderate a conversation with photojournalist Guillaume Bonn about his new book, Paradise Inc., which focuses on environmental conservation issues as climate change and other human activities transform the planet. The book is a compilation of Bonn’s twenty-year effort to visually document the vulnerable East African wilderness. RSVP now! (fb)
