Network of Myanmar American Association

The Network of Myanmar American Association (NetMAA) is a nonprofit, non-partisan, and non-political organization founded in early 2006. It operates entirely through volunteer efforts and is headquartered in Monterey Park, California.

Objectives and Mission

NetMAA aims to support and promote education, social issues, arts, and culture within the Myanmar-American community. Key objectives include:

• Educating the community about its rich cultural heritage.
• Building bridges of friendship and understanding with other communities.
• Maintaining open communication and cooperation with other Myanmar-American organizations and racial and ethnic community groups.

Programs and Activities

NetMAA engages in a variety of programs and events focused on civic and cultural education for the Myanmar-American community in Los Angeles. These include:

• Arts and Culture Events: Film festivals, photo exhibitions, concerts, and traditional dance classes for youth.
• Community Engagement: Annual Myanmar Families Adventure during Labor Day weekend.
• Immigration Assistance: Legal assistance for U.S. immigration matters.
• Cultural Education: Providing Myanmar youth with quality cultural and dance education, increasing awareness about the Myanmar-American community at Asian American cultural events.

Funding

NetMAA relies on funding through donations, grants, membership fees, and individual and corporate sponsorships.

Recent Initiatives

Recent initiatives include the publication of a statistical report on Burmese Americans in the U.S. and informational webinars on Temporary Protected Status for Myanmar/Burma. NetMAA also hosts an annual Myanmar Film Festival of Los Angeles, which has been adapted to a virtual format during certain years.
