Our near shore nutrient monitoring program is officially up and running this week 🎉 Volunteers are collecting water samples from the top 1 foot of Seneca Lake along both shores. Using a special sampler that fills as it’s lowered and seals at the bottom, they gather water to test for nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. These nutrients can fuel algae growth near the shore, including Cladophora and harmful algal blooms (HABs).
