Today is Endangered Species Day, which gives us a reminder of the critical role we all play in protecting vulnerable wildlife. Although the Piping Plover is not classified as endangered, it is a federally threatened species that nests right here along the shores of Long Island Sound. These small shorebirds face significant challenges, particularly due to human disturbance and habitat loss. Protecting their nesting areas and raising awareness about their needs is crucial to ensuring their continued presence in our coastal ecosystems. Every effort we make to minimize impact on their habitats can help keep this species thriving. (fb)
