Belmont Day School was founded in 1927 by a group of parents committed to providing children in the elementary years with a strong academic foundation and many opportunities for creative expression. Today, as then, the school's program is designed to support and challenge the intellectual, social, emotional, creative, and physical growth of each child. Teachers, students, administrators and parents create a community of learners that provides encouragement, and an atmosphere in which students feel secure, experience the joys of learning, and know their accomplishments are valued. The school's curriculum is designed with an understanding of the ways children develop. In every grade, students learn through concrete experiences as well as activities which extend the developing capacity for abstract reasoning. To provide each student with individual attention, classes are regularly sectioned into small instructional groups. Ongoing curriculum evaluation and professional development activities ensure that the school's professionals are aware of and responsive to the best in education theory and practice.
