The American Chesapeake Club Charitable Trust (ACCCT) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the study, research, and welfare of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever breed. The Trust focuses on various aspects of the breed including its history, character, breeding, genetics, and particular health issues associated with the Chesapeake Bay Retriever.[1][4]
Mission and Activities
The ACCCT aims to further the understanding and preservation of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever by supporting initiatives related to health, education, and rescue. It facilitates research and provides resources for breeders and enthusiasts to maintain the integrity and well-being of this unique dog breed. The Trust also administers educational programs and scholarships to encourage responsible breeding and ownership.[1]
Rescue and Adoption
One of the key services supported by the American Chesapeake Club Charitable Trust is the ACC Rescue Network. This rescue operation works to find new forever homes for Chesapeake Bay Retrievers in need. The Rescue Network matches dogs to families based on compatibility, considering family dynamics and environmental factors to ensure successful adoptions. The ACC Rescue Network is supported by volunteers and receives grants, such as a $5,000 award from the Westminster Kennel Club in 2024, to assist in its activities.[5]
Relationship with the American Chesapeake Club
While the American Chesapeake Club (ACC) is the official American Kennel Club parent club for the Chesapeake Bay Retriever and manages breed standards and events, the ACCCT operates as an independent entity. The Charitable Trust complements the ACCโs mission by focusing on charitable works including health research, education, and rescue support for the breed. Donations to the ACCCT are tax-deductible and fund these charitable programs.[1][2][3]
Programs and Outreach
The Trust has introduced initiatives like the Junior Scholarship Program to foster interest and education among young enthusiasts. It encourages public involvement and financial support to expand its capacity to promote the breedโs welfare and heritage.[1]
This overview highlights the American Chesapeake Club Charitable Trustโs role in advancing the welfare and preservation of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever through research, education, rescue, and community engagement.
