In her annual special post-AP exam project, Ms. Baldvins had her students select creative chemistry experiments to showcase to their Lower School peers. Partnering with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for the second year, Grade 4 took flight, this time helping shape the new Visitor Center in Sapsucker Woods, Ithaca! Our students suggested physical and programming iterations – VR and technology-driven experiences to understand and see what it is like to be a bird, rethinking outdoor spaces by adding tables, and a theme-park-like environment to make the space visually appealing. "They were motivated to help shape this opportunity for kids age 6-12," said Dean of Innovation Daniel Mendel. "They tapped into their helping instinct and were weighing in on something that could make a difference for others beyond the walls of our campus. It drove their interest in a variety of disciplines and skills – teamwork, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. There were no right or wrong answers and they saw their teachers more as coaches than as arbiters of knowledge. We were on this journey with them!" (fb)
