Danby Community Park Association Inc

Overview

The Danby Community Park Association Inc (DCPA) is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to developing and maintaining community resources in Danby, New York. Established to address local needs for recreational and community spaces, the organization has played a central role in creating and managing Dotson Park, a 92-acre community park.

History

The idea for a community park and center originated from the need for recreational space and a community hub in Danby. Initially, plans were made for the Town of Danby to own the land, but due to legal constraints, the Comptroller's Office suggested forming a not-for-profit corporation. This led to the establishment of the Danby Community Park Association Inc., which was officially recognized as a charitable organization by both the Internal Revenue Service and the New York Department of State in 2002.

Dotson Park

Dotson Park, managed by the DCPA, is located at 1825 Danby Road and includes various amenities:

  • Disc Golf Course: An 18-hole course suitable for both beginners and experienced players.
  • Natural Playground: Featuring a slide and rock scramble for children.
  • Trail System: Over one mile of marked trails for walking and jogging.
  • Picnic Areas: Pavilion with tables and benches.
  • Sledding Hill: Family-friendly hill for winter activities.
  • Youth Programs: Hosts Danby youth programs and Primitive Pursuits activities.

The park is protected by a conservation easement to ensure its preservation.

Community Involvement and Support

The DCPA relies heavily on community support to maintain and enhance the park. Volunteers and donations are essential for its continued development. The association encourages local residents to participate in various aspects of park management and development.

Financial Status As a 501(c)(3) organization, donations to the Danby Community Park Association Inc. are tax-deductible. The organization applies for grants and relies on fundraising efforts to support park initiatives.

I work in a nonprofit and listing our organization on Eduo.org helped us reach new audiences and even new volunteers. It’s easy to use and feels built with love.
