What are biological condensates? 💦 Liquid-like droplets that spontaneously form inside cells, including the cells in the brain! 🧠 This phenomenon, originally discovered at the MBL during the 2008 Physiology course, could someday lead scientists to better treatments for neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's. 👥 Condensates have spawned a "metaverse" of collaboration between MBL scientists and visiting researchers, centered around MBL Senior Scientist Jennifer Morgan and Dragomir Milovanovic of the Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen - DZNE. 🔬 Morgan and Milovanovic both study synapses, the critical contact points where nerve cells communicate. 📲 Read more about their work: https://bit.ly/4j297g8 (fb)

We are in the presence of science stardom 🤩 Congratulations to Linda Hyman, MBL Education Director, who has been elected a 2024 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science! 📚 The AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals. 🥼 Hyman is among 471 scientists, engineers, and innovators who have been elected 2024 Fellows for their scientifically and socially distinguished achievements throughout their careers. 📖 Hyman oversees direction of the MBL’s academic programs at all levels—from high school to secondary students to undergraduates, graduates, and post-graduates, including the MBL’s world-renowned Advanced Research Training Courses. 🔬 19 other members of the MBL community were also elected 2024 Fellows!
