Celebrate creativity, resilience, and community at The Fortune Society's Arts Festival on June 14 at Socrates. From 2–6 PM, enjoy performances, workshops, and art from individuals impacted by the justice system. The Fortune Society’s (Fortune) mission is to support successful reentry from incarceration and promote alternatives to incarceration, thus strengthening the fabric of our communities. The organization offers support to New Yorkers following the trauma of legal system involvement and incarceration and helps to bridge the many systemic divides that are barriers to individual and community success. They do this through a holistic, one-stop model of service provision. Since the agency’s inception more than 50 years ago, Fortune has been committed to using the restorative capacities of art and art-making to promote healing and liberation and to advocate for more just collective futures. Free and open to all. Learn more and register: https://shorturl.at/H3ZSW (fb)

On June 5 at the annual Socrates Gala, we're celebrating individuals whose bold, community-rooted work continues to shape the artistic and built environment in New York City and beyond. Join us as we celebrate @LOT_EK, the award-winning design duo behind The CUBES whose approach transforms industrial materials into architectural poetry. About LOT-EK: LOT-EK is a design studio based in New York, known for its innovative approach to architecture and design through the adaptive reuse of industrial materials. Founded in 1993 by Italian architects Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano, LOT-EK has been involved in a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, and institutional projects both in the US and internationally. LOT-EK has also undertaken projects for major cultural institutions and museums, such as MoMA, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim, the MAXXI and many more. The feature length documentary about their work, "We Start with the Things We Find" by Thomas Piper, premiered in 2023. LOT-EK is the award-winning designer of Socrates’ permanent structure, The CUBES, that opened April 2024. Help us celebrate members of our local, national, and global community who are committed to sustaining public art and public space as platforms for creativity, dialogue, and transformation.
