Built on traditional Lenape land, site of the Battle of Brooklyn on August 27, 1776, and home of the The Old Stone House & Washington Park is a 1934 Robert Moses reconstruction of the 1699 Vechte house, built on land taken from the Lenape. It was the culminating site of the Battle of Brooklyn (August1776), the largest battle of the Revolutionary War. OSH’s mission is to draw on its history - Lenape homeland, Dutch colonization, American Revolution and beyond—to educate, inspire and promote civic engagement for more than 6,000 students and 500,000 park visitors annually.
