The University of Nebraska Foundation mourns the passing of UNO Chancellor Emeritus John E. Christensen, Ph.D., who led the university through a transformational period in the university’s history from 2007 to 2017. “Under John Christensen’s leadership, UNO grew to become the thriving metropolitan university it is today,” said Brian F. Hastings, president and CEO of the University of Nebraska Foundation. “John’s Midwestern values and passion for his alma mater helped him forge meaningful connections with the UNO community, Omaha business leaders, alumni and donors. Because of his exemplary service, John and his wife, Jan, were honored in 2023 with the foundation’s top service award, the Harlan J. Noddle Award for Distinguished Development Service. The Lozier Foundation has made a leadership gift to establish a distinguished chair of literacy at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The investment will support UNO’s literacy education programs, positioning the university as a leader in the field. Pending approval of the University of Nebraska, the inaugural recipient will be Jennifer Lemke, Ed.D., assistant professor of literacy in the UNO College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.
