Myth-busting Monday at Howling Woods Farm! The term “alpha wolf” is often misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, wolves typically form family units consisting of a breeding pair (the mother and father) and their offspring. These parents lead the pack not through aggression, but by nurturing and guiding their young. Wolves are known for their cooperative behavior. They work together to hunt, raise pups, and defend their territory. Leadership in wolf packs is based on mutual respect, not dominance. Recent research has shown that the concept of “alpha” was largely based on studies of captive wolves, which do not accurately reflect wild pack dynamics. In nature, dominance hierarchies are fluid, and behavior is often focused on harmony, including play and grooming. Understanding wolves’ true nature helps us appreciate their complexity and the important roles they play in ecosystems. Let’s shift the narrative to celebrate their cooperative spirit and family-oriented behavior. (fb)

Ivory is still searching for her new loving family! Please share her and help get this beautiful girl the home she deserves. Ivory is a 1-year-old White Shepherd Mix (Embark test pending) who is searching for her forever home. This beautiful, spirited girl is full of affection and loves to greet everyone with enthusiasm (we’re working on her jumping)! She is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccines, and ready for new adventures. Ivory is great with kids; however, due to her playful nature adults or a family with older children is suggested. She loves going for walks and exploring new places, so an active lifestyle is a must! Important Information: - Ivory has separation anxiety - She primarily gets along with large male dogs. - She requires a secure yard with a 6ft+ metal privacy fence that includes dig protection, as she is quite the athlete! - No cats or small animals, please—she has a strong prey drive. - Due to her possible wolf content, she cannot be adopted by families in PA or NY. Requirements for Adoption: - Experience with northern breeds or high-energy German Shepherds is essential. - Consistency and obedience training are necessary to help her thrive. - An outlet for her energy is crucial, as she can be a bit mouthy and destructive indoors. If you’re ready for a loving, energetic companion who will keep you on your toes, Ivory might just be the perfect fit! If you’re interested in Ivory, please reach out to us at Howling Woods Farm for more information or to schedule a meet-and-greet! Please help us spread the word and share with your networks to help give Ivory the chance she deserves! (fb)
