ELISABETTA VITALI TAKES OVER FROM LISA MAYER AS GAHF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR After 17 years at the helm of the Giovanni Armenise Harvard Foundation, Lisa Mayer is retiring and stepping down as Executive Director. Since 2008, Lisa Mayer’s passion and dedication have been key for the continued growth of the Foundation’s programmes both in the US and in Italy. During her tenure, 30 junior faculty grants were made at Harvard Medical School, 26 Career Development Award winners established their laboratories in Italy, several new grant programs aimed at mid-career researchers were begun, and major financial investments were made in Harvard Medical School research. In addition, there are 170 Italian Summer Fellows who have been chosen to spend summers in Boston, thereby not only enhancing their education but enriching as many Harvard labs. #LisaMayer - 🗣“The 2008 financial downturn was not the most opportune moment to begin at the Foundation, but I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish since, developing our programs while keeping afloat financially, strengthening our reputation in Italy, and never stinting on the philosophy of scientific excellence, which was our founder’s wish. None of this would have been possible without the talented staff, faculty, and students, who make up this awe-inspiring community, and I am very lucky to have worked with extraordinary colleagues”. Following Lisa Mayer’s retirement, the Board of Trustees has appointed Elisabetta Vitali as the new Executive Director. Elisabetta Vitali had been Director of Italian Affairs for the Foundation since 2014. #ElisabettaVitali - 🗣“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Lisa for 11 years, and thankful for her invaluable mentoring and guidance. I’m honoured to take up this new role, and I look forward to strengthen the Foundation’s reach and, even more, our unique community of scientists both in Boston and in Italy”. (fb)
