Ali Truwit has been named our 2024 Chelsea Cohen Courage Award recipient. The Darien resident, just two days after graduating from Yale University in 2023 where she was a member of the women’s swim team, was attacked by a shark while snorkeling and lost her foot and part of her leg in the attack. Remarkably, in just over a year she worked to recover, learn life with a prosthetic and made Team USA for the 2024 Paralympics in swimming. Ali became a two-time Silver Medalist & two-time American Record holder in the 400-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke at the Paris Paralympic Games. She also continues her work to champion disability awareness and opportunity through her foundation, strongerthanyouthink.org. (fb)
