The Buffalo Maritime Center (BMC) is celebrating the beginning of the 2025 Season at Canalside with the much-anticipated launch and inauguration of the 1812 U.S.S. Trippe (pronounced “Trip”) this Saturday, May 17, at the Commercial Slip at Canalside, 44 Prime Street, Buffalo, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm! This FREE event is family-friendly, non-ticketed, and open to all. Watch as this historic vessel enters the Commercial Slip for the first time and is officially welcomed with a traditional champagne bottle ceremony! The Trippe is a replica of an early 1800s commercial sailing vessel, converted for naval use during the War of 1812. Forever in our hearts 🕊️ On May 14, 2022, a senseless act of hate took 10 beloved members of Buffalo’s Black community, injured others, and forever changed our city. As we remember those we lost, we also honor the resilience of a community that continues to lead conversations around healing, justice, and change. While the tragedy at Tops Market brought national attention to racism, violence, and systemic inequities, it also sparked ongoing efforts to create a safer, more equitable Buffalo for all.
