As a community organization in Brooklyn, members of the Fort Greene Association are devoted to neighborhood and park enhancement, historic preservation, as well as cultural, economic, and employment advancement.In 1971 the FGA was created as the Fort Greene Landmarks Preservation Committee to protect and promote this historically and architecturally rich locale. The effort was rewarded in 1978 when the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated both the Fort Greene and Brooklyn Academy of Music Historic Districts. The Fort Greene Association now has an IRS non-profit designation of 501(c)(3). It interfaces with civic officials, Community Board 2, and other institutions to give voice to the area's residents.
